DEPARTMENT OF NON-RESIDENT KERALITES AFFAIRS
The Non-Resident Keralites Affairs abbreviated as NORKA is a department of the Government of Kerala formed on 6 December 1996 to redress the grievances of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) It is the first of its kind formed in any Indian state. The department was formed in an attempt to strengthen the relationship between the NRIs and the Government of Kerala and to improve the administrative framework. Keralam is a vibrant and progressive state and its NRIs have adapted to new life styles in foreign lands. However, the link and retention of their ties with their families and friends in Kerala and abroad often finds expression in issues relating to visa cheating, matrimony and other family issues, Emigration Agencies, Poor job conditions and Payment related issues. Understating the stock of the situation, Government of Kerala decided to constitute a Commission for the sole objective of welfare of the NRI Keralites. The Non Resident Indians’ (Keralites) Commission was constituted under the Non Resident Indians’ (Keralites) Act 2015.
